Computers are so economical, I bought a new one.  After 4 years, my other one was no longer efficient anyway.  Do you know how many passwords you can no longer remember or where to get new drivers and updates after that period of time?

I found this Tech Organizer eBook for $20.00.  http://www.epowerorganizeit.com/ebook/eb.htm.  Check out the sample chapter and I think you will be amazed at how organized you will become.

Beware – Zip Web and eBusinessSvcGroup – add Bill Block via your phone company

March 23, 2009 · Leave a Comment

If you receive a telephone call from either of the above companies, immediately hang up, DO NOT give them the courtesy of even acknowledging anything.  Even if you tell them you are not interested, they will automatically give you a 30-day trial period in which to cancel the service.  It did not matter that I did not accept the service, they sent through a charge of $99.95 plus $13.77 tax to my Verizon account.

The charge is submitted to Verizon by PayOne billing but when you call PayOne to dispute the charge, they transfer you to ZipWeb-eBusinessSvcGroup.  Their customer service department did cancel my account with a verification number but would not refund the charge I had received.

In speaking with Verizon, at no charge, they added a 3rd party Bill Block to my accounts and reversed all charges.  I am a very satisfied Tampa Verizon customer.

The Inauguration in gigapan …

January 31, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Check out this photo of the inauguration at www.gigapan.org.  Just mouse over any portion of the photo, and it will immediately zoom in for a close-up, even of the secret service agents on the rooftops.  David Bergman has created this photo that is incredible.  It’s a mind-boggling panoramic image of the crowds.

Bergman actually created the panorama from 220 individual images.  He took the shots with his 14.7-megapixel Canon G10.

There are additional gigapan photos to see while you are visiting the site.

Don’t have time to read the newspaper …

January 31, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Scan front pages of newspapers from all over the world – http://www.newseum.org - just mouse over the map.  Since I do not take time to read a Tampa Bay area online or print newspaper from front to back or back to front, this has become a quick way to see what is currently happening in my backyeard as well as other areas.  There are active links that will take you to the newspaper’s website if you want to read more in depth about a news story.  A word of warning -  not all front pages are non-offensive.

Did you know … the mouse turned 40 ~

January 3, 2009 · Leave a Comment

The first mouse was debuted to the public on December 9, 1968, by scientist Douglas Engelbart of Stanford Research Institute.  It took until around 1983 for it to catch on and, of course, computing has never been the same.  It’s hard to remember what it was like to not have a mouse to use with your computer.  The last 20 years have seen “mice” become larger, smaller, with track balls and without, ergonomic and not and now laser and who knows what is yet to come.

Above is Engelbart’s first prototype mouse (held by its inventor). Note the square shape, hand-crafted wood case and giant wheel inside. The part of this little beast that most resembles a modern mouse is the taillike cord that gave it its name.  Source:  MSN.com.

However, I do miss my Corvette mouse with the blinking lights and race track sounds and horn -
